WHAT IS THE REIGN APP?

An app that allows users to feel like a king or queen by ruling over various SMART devices in their home.  They can control these devices straight from the app and even create events with these devices. Basically making the user feel like royalty.

OVERVIEW AND CHALLENGES - A ROYAL DECREE

The goal of this app to make the user feel like they have complete control of their household devices through their phone. Also, the goal is to keep a multitude of devices under one app. The app should be easy to navigate, but have enough features to make the user feel like they can utilize each device to its fullest.

PRODUCT GOALS - ORDERS FROM THE MONARCHY

  • Devices should be easy to use and serve more than function. There should be multiple ways to access these devices and ways to automate them.

  • Make it simple for devices to be added and removed.

  • Theoretically, the app is shown controlling every device in the household to further the concept.

ABOUT:

Cat Gomez is a YouTube content creator who mostly works from home. Besides her usual camera equipment, she has several SMART devices and uses them quite frequently whether it be for relaxing or making videos. She is always looking for ways to use new tech so the Reign app would help her use all of her devices for all of her needs.

WANTS/GOALS:

  • Have all of her household devices controllable under one roof.

  • Schedule events through the app itself.

  • Add or remove devices with ease.

SKETCHES

As an iPhone user, it was important to read the Material Design Guide, grab some parchment paper, ink up a fountain pen, and get to work on some sketches. This way, I could truly understand how an Android app works.

WIREFRAMES

Organization was an important part of the early process. An early idea was "pinning" devices to the homepage so certain devices can be accessed right away. The next step was creating a user flow.
